Should You Try CBD Oil for Your Pet?

Cannabidiol (CBD) has been in the spotlight lately thanks to its plethora of benefits. You may already know that it may be used to treat nausea, anxiety, pain, insomnia and much more. However, did you know that those benefits don’t just apply to humans? CBD may be a fantastic natural remedy for your pet, too!

CBD is a natural compound found in cannabis, typically derived from the hemp plant. CBD works with various systems in the body to possibly help reduce stress, promote restful sleep and even reduce pain and anxiety as well. Although CBD is usually used by humans, it may also be used by pets as well!

How CBD Can Help Your Pet

Although there have not been many studies on CBD usage for pets, there is some evidence that suggests CBD may help pets, specifically dogs, in several different ways. For example, many dog owners suggest that CBD helps with managing their dog’s pain and anxiety.

Pets with arthritis or other painful ailments may benefit from CBD as the compound has been shown to be a reliable natural form of pain relief. This cannabinoid may help your pet feel more comfortable and experience less pain. Plus, it has minimal, if any, side effects – making it a nice possible alternative to traditional prescription pain medications in some cases.

Also, if your dog suffers from anxiety (perhaps getting stressed out when you leave or when there is a thunderstorm) CBD may help as well. CBD is known for its calming and relaxing effects, so it may be a good option if your pet has anxiety. It may also be good to give your dog CBD before a thunderstorm or on the 4th of July before the fireworks start if loud noises bother him. The relaxing effects of CBD may also help your dog to sleep better as well.

Additionally, CBD may also help with treating nausea in pets and may help prevent vomiting. If your pet is sick, you may want to consult your veterinarian about whether CBD could help alleviate his symptoms.

The AKC Canine Health Foundation (AKCCHF) announced in 2018 that it was launching a large-scale study to research the effects of CBD on seizures in dogs. It is thought that CBD may be a valuable option for treating seizures, particularly those caused by epilepsy. This study will likely provide invaluable information about how CBD may help manage seizures in dogs.

A Word of Caution

While CBD may be a great option for your pet, it is important to always do your research before you start giving Fido CBD oil or CBD dog treats. You should speak to your pet’s veterinarian before you start using CBD products to ensure that there are no medications that interact with CBD, and to verify that CBD would be a good option for your pet’s individual needs.

In short, CBD may be a great natural remedy to help your pet manage his anxiety, pain, and more. Just ensure that you do your research beforehand and only purchase high-quality products before you give them to your furry friend.
